Climate Change 101

Bethany Esse is a charter member of the Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub, and is also a Climate Reality Leader through the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, a global network of activists founded by former Vice President Al Gore, who are committed to spreading awareness of the climate crisis and to working for solutions to the greatest challenge of our time. She was trained with over 900 other citizen activists in March of 2017 in Denver, and served as a mentor for the Minneapolis Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in August of 2019. This presentation will cover the causes of climate change, the impact it is having on our world, and the solutions that are available to halt, and reverse, global warming. |

She has a BA in Psychology from Boston College, and a Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Northwestern Health Sciences University. Kerri has been providing acupuncture treatments since 2004. |

We will be treated to music from junior and senior members from the Chamber Orchestra at Hopkins High School. Joining us will be: Ruby Gruidl - violin The Hopkins High School performing groups have traveled across the U.S., have performed at numerous state and national conventions, and have been very successful in competition. Year-long, every-other-day, 88-minute elective courses include: four choirs, three bands, two jazz bands, and three orchestras. Nine-week, every-day courses include music technology and three levels of guitar. Extracurricular music opportunities include small vocal and orchestra ensembles, pep band, and the fall musical. |

He has worked in the fitness industry for 20+ years and loves to see people healthy, active, and living life on purpose.

Maurice Harris is the Research Manager for Greater MSP. Maurice’s roles include conducting research to support economic development and market research efforts for the recruitment, retention, and attraction of businesses to the region. He is also responsible for the development and maintenance of intelligence directly related to supporting regional economic development efforts. Prior to GREATER MSP, Maurice was a researcher with the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC), the research arm of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. His primary roles were performing target industry research, economic impact analysis, and special project research for policymakers. Originally from St. Louis, MO, he obtained his Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia in Public Affairs, specializing in Public Policy Analysis and Regional Development and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Knox College majoring in Political Science and History. He was elected to the Golden Valley City Council in November, 2019. |

The Warren Commission Report: Fact or Fiction

David Yorks is a life-long resident of Lake Minnetonka and a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a History degree and a Masters Degree in American History. He has a fifty-five year interest in the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Regarding the Kennedy assassination, David has attended several national conferences and has met with and discussed the assassination with witnesses present in Dealey Plaza as well as discussing the assassination with several doctors who were present at Parkland Hospital, where they attempted to save the President’s life. David’s business career included being a buyer at Dayton’s Department Store and owning a business that sold apparel to JCPenney. (JCPenney is headquartered in Dallas which allowed David to visit Dallas frequently, sixteen times in one year alone.) David also worked for Minnesota's United States Senator Rudy Boschwitz. This presentation highlights the major discrepancies between the findings of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of President Kennedy in 1964 for ten months versus the conclusions of the United States House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations, which investigated the assassination for thirty-one months, ending in 1979. |

Their children, Karl and Ellen, competed in sports and appreciate their Minnesota roots.

Jason Zimmerman, Golden Valley City Planning Manager, will talk about The Downtown GV Redesign. Jason Zimmerman is the Planning Manager for Golden Valley. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Carleton College and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Master’s degree in City Planning. Following a stint as a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota, he spent a number of years working as a full-time stay-at-home parent for four kids before returning to municipal planning. He has been with Golden Valley for six years and oversees day to day planning and zoning operations as well as long range efforts such as the recent adoption of the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan. In his spare time, he enjoys long distance running and caring for numerous household pets. |

Vaccines on Fire - Successes and Challenges

Diane C. Peterson is the Associate Director for Immunization Projects at Immunization Action Coalition. Ms. Peterson is one of Minnesota's longest serving leaders in saving children's lives through safe and effective immunization. Peterson's career in immunization, spanning nearly 40 years, has been devoted to increasing the number of children, in Minnesota and nationally, who are immunized and to improving the safety and effectiveness with which vaccines are delivered to them. She has led major projects at the Minnesota Department of Health including developing policies to equitably distribute vaccine resources to children statewide, working with legislators to ensure passage of laws that increase immunization rates in childcare facilities and schools, helping initiate Minnesota's immunization registry, creating the initial plan for Minnesota's implementation of the federal Vaccines For Children program, developing innovative education materials for healthcare professionals and the public, and promoting immunization to the media, parents, and others through her role as an MDH spokesperson. In 2012, she was selected as the Minnesota recipient of the first annual Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Childhood Immunization Champion Award. The Champion Award recognizes individuals who are working at the community level. It honors those who are doing an exemplary job or going above and beyond to promote or foster childhood immunizations in their communities. Rosenquist has lived in Golden Valley for over 15 years and has previously practiced intellectual property law and worked for a legal nonprofit. She served on the City’s Open Space and Recreation Commission until 2012 and is involved in multiple community and school organizations. She has a JD degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Gillian loves live music, literature and art, craft beer, long walks with her dog, and time with family and friends. She is married to Jeff, the 2nd generation owner of Rosenquist Construction, Inc. Jeff is an active Cub Scout leader and enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. The Rosenquists have three sons in Hopkins Public Schools and a black lab named Ripley. |

VIRTUAL MEETING District 5950 Rotary Foundation Chair Carol MacDonald and PolioPlus Chair Tim Mulcrone will speak about The Rotary Foundation. Carol MacDonald joined the Burnsville Breakfast Club in 2007, holding numerous board positions and serving as club president in 2010-11. She served as District Alumni Association Committee Chair, District Grant Review Committee member, and is a member of the Paul Harris Society. She retired from Wachovia (now Wells Fargo). Carol loves to travel and has visited most of the United States and 30 countries, including participating in Rotary Friendship Exchange trips to India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Tim Mulcrone has been the District's PolioPlus chair for several years, and has done a fantastic job! Tim has spoken at numerous clubs (not just in District 5950) on the cause about which he is most passionate, having seen polio affect his own family. There is practically nothing he won’t do to raise money to finally eradicate this disease. Tim is a Chanhassen Rotarian and retired police sergeant with the Minnetonka Police Department. |

Dawn Fish is senior director leadership giving for Dunwoody College of Technology. Dawn joined Dunwoody in 2015 after a 30-year career in Twin Cities’ nonprofits, including the University of Minnesota Foundation, Minnesota Medical Foundation, Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation, Scholarship America, and the leadership of a family foundation. She is part of a team that just completed Dunwoody’s largest-ever capital campaign, $52.5 million, to renovate the College’s historic campus, expand programs for today’s students, boost its endowment, and build a foundation for continued support of William and Kate Dunwoody’s legacy. She holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential, a bachelor’s degree in communications from Metropolitan State University, a master’s of organizational leadership from St. Catherine’s University, and a master’s of legal studies from Purdue University Global, in addition to having completed a Policy Fellowship at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. |

She began her airport career as an intern in the San Diego Airport Noise Office before going to the MAC, where she has worked for over 10 years. Dana engages and builds relationships with individuals, elected leaders, and organizations who often have passionate opinions about aviation and community impacts resulting from airport operations. Dana graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management with Flight. She lives in Savage with her husband and two girls, ages five and three. |

Wendy Willson Legge received her B.A. summa cum laude from Harvard University (Radcliffe College) in 1975 and her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1980. After a brief stint in private practice, Wendy worked in various roles for the state of Minnesota beginning in 1987. In 2018, Wendy retired as the Chief General Counsel of the Department of Labor and Industry, and then returned to work for the Department half-time until the end of 2019. She is now truly retired from the paid workforce! Wendy's current volunteer work includes pro bono legal work for low-income people facing eviction in Hennepin or Ramsey County. Her topic today is “Workers Compensation in MN”. |
