Crime and Other Public Safety Challenges in Golden Valley

Scott Nadeau has been the interim Chief of Police in Golden Valley since September 2021. Prior to Golden Valley, he served as the Chief of Police/Public Safety Director for the City of Maplewood (MN) from 2017 to 2021 and he was the Police Chief for the City of Columbia Heights (MN) from 2008 to 2017. Nadeau is expected to serve the Golden Valley department for four to six months as the city searches for a permanent candidate.

Chief Nadeau has led a distinguished thirty-four year career in law enforcement. In the past thirteen years as a police chief he has led two police department’s return to community-oriented policing. This transformation has built and expanded important police-community partnerships which have led to significant crime reduction and increased community and stakeholder support as evidenced by active partnerships, crime statistics, and survey results. He is also a recognized leader in diversity related issues in policing. The work accomplished by the departments he has led has resulted in numerous awards and recognition by the IACP, US Department of Justice, and other state and regional entities.

Chief Nadeau is also an educator and consultant who has instructed college and university classes on a variety of topics since 2003 and has delivered training in classroom, conference, and community settings to law enforcement leaders.
