When he isn’t reading, googling random questions, or eating pasta, Zeke is either gaining business experience or advocating for the PSEO program! As the Executive Director of People for PSEO, Zeke is passionate about working to ensure that the value of the PSEO program is recognized by communities across Minnesota. His priorities include clearing up public misconceptions about the PSEO program, pushing for fair PSEO policies, and working with other students to ensure that high schools are following PSEO laws. Jaime Belden is a dedicated teacher from Robbinsdale, MN and co-founder of Future Roots Project. Starting in 2013 with the belief that all children deserve a high-quality education regardless of the situation in which they are born, she has dedicated herself to improving the quality of education in Central America by providing teacher trainings that promote literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and social and emotional development. While supporting the most impoverished schools, teachers, and students, she has actively promoted peace in high conflict communities by investing in basic literacy education.
In 2018, Hamline University awarded her the First Decade Award for her outstanding accomplishments in the field of global studies. Her specialization in global education and in-depth cultural knowledge allows her to effectively analyze the transnational issues of education inequality and illiteracy. Putting into practice key concepts of cultural competency, awareness, and sensitivity, she is able to successfully collaborate with local leaders through powerful cross-cultural relationship building. |

VIRTUAL MEETING Meeting location: Emmett Mullin serves as the Regional Parks and Natural Resources Unit Manager at the Metropolitan Council. He and his team work closely with the ten regional park implementing agencies to provide high-quality, natural resource-based recreational opportunities throughout the region. He has been in this position since 2015. Prior to his work at the Metropolitan Council, he served in a variety of planning capacities at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for over 20 years. Of particular note, he served as the project manager for the 25-year Parks and Trails Legacy Plan that guides the implementation of the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund throughout Minnesota’s parks and trails of state and regional significance. Prior to the Minnesota DNR, he worked with the Wisconsin DNR and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, West Africa. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an undergraduate degree from Marquette University. |

VIRTUAL MEETING Join Zoom Meeting Jan Callison served 12 years (2009-2020) as a member of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners representing the Sixth District, including all or part of 16 western suburban communities. During her tenure, she was elected by her colleagues at various times as chair of the County Board, chair of the Regional Rail Authority, and chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Prior to her election as county commissioner, she served 12 years as an at-large councilmember in Minnetonka and three years as Mayor of Minnetonka. Jan received her undergraduate degree from Morningside College, graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, and law degree from Harvard University. She has worked as in-house legal counsel, as an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law, and as the executive director of an affordable housing non-profit agency. Jan and her husband live in Minnetonka where they raised three children. |

A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, he represents District 18A, which includes parts of McLeod, Meeker, and Wright counties in the central part of the state just west of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Urdahl taught American History for 35 years at New London-Spicer Public Schools and is the author of nine published books. His writings deal primarily with the Dakota War of 1862 and the American Civil War. He is a graduate of Litchfield High School and St. Cloud State University. Urdahl's major legislative accomplishments include initiating the investment tax credit for livestock, lockdown drills for school security, and the restoration/renovation of the Capitol. He and his wife Karen have three sons and 11 grandchildren. |

Before coming to Minnesota to lead the Bell, Denise served as director of education and planning at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where she led planetarium production, exhibit and program development, community outreach, and long-range institutional planning. Highway 55 Clean-Up The Golden Valley Rotary Club is in its 25th year of caring for our stretch of Highway 55; our work continues on Tuesday, April 27! Community members are welcome to join us in this fun and easy project. Meet at the NE Corner of Hwy 55 and Winnetka Ave. 1. We encourage everyone to wear masks upon arrival. The only portion of highway clean up where people tend to congregate is when receiving their vest and pick up instructions, and that is usually a group of 10 or less. After that, people are usually split into pairs to clean up different sections of the highway, where maintaining social distancing is pretty straightforward. |

Waste Reduction and Recycling

VIRTUAL MEETING Join Zoom Meeting Mallory Anderson works within Hennepin County's waste reduction and recycling unit working to meet a 75% recycling goal by 2030. Mallory works on policy and annual reporting for the county's waste reduction and recycling team. She leads the implementation of Hennepin County's Recycling Requirement Ordinance #13. She has supported the business recycling team as a liaison to businesses trying to reduce waste and increase how much they recycled. In her current role, she leads fundraising and engagement efforts for the StepUP collegiate recovery program, including the annual StepUP Gala. She is passionate about raising awareness about the disease of addiction and the transformative power of recovery. Martha earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Humanities, Media and Cultural Studies from Macalester College and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Augsburg University. Renee Most joined Augsburg University’s StepUP Program for students in recovery from substance abuse as its new director in fall 2019, bringing her own experience as an alumna of StepUP and her 15 plus years of clinical work in the field of addiction related issues. Renee holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Catherine’s University, is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), and earned a master’s degree in addiction studies from Hazelden Graduate School. |

Dr. Mary Meland is a graduate of Carleton College and the U of Minnesota School of Medicine. She is retired after practicing pediatrics for 40 years, first at HealthPartners in Bloomington and finally at South Lake Pediatrics in Maple Grove. In addition to general pediatrics, Dr. Meland has a special interest in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and in early childhood education. She has been active in urging the MN Legislature to consider the needs of our youngest citizens. Dr. Meland and her husband have three children and five grandchildren, all of whom live in Minneapolis. Ada Alden holds an M.A. and Ed.D. from the University of Minnesota. She worked for 25 years as the Director of Family Educational Services for the Eden Prairie Schools and has served as an adjunct professor and department chair in Child and Family Studies at St. Cloud State University. Ada taught classes at the University of Minnesota and presently is a University of Minnesota Supervisor assisting graduate students seeking to complete the parent educator licensure. Ada has worked in the early childhood field for over 40 years and has trained early childhood professionals and parents throughout the midwest. She started four early childhood/family education programs in Minnesota, addressing the needs, concerns, and challenges of families with young children. |

Urban Agriculture - Growing Food and Security on Our Own Turf

Ethan Neal is a 7th generation farmer and laborer born in Iowa and raised in Northfield, Minnesota. Despite being surrounded by agriculture throughout his life, it wasn’t until he started working with Pillsbury United that he grew food for community. Since that first growing season in 2011, connecting people to food, soil, and their farmers has been his life’s work. Ethan has worked in a variety of roles with Pillsbury United – from working as a part time job coach for adults with special needs, to coordinating a food shelf, to stewarding Pillsbury’s mission to grow food security as the Director of Food Systems. Through food shelves, community meal programs, outdoor and hydroponic farms, Ethan is dedicated to providing families with choice and access, feeding PUC’s goal of a food system nurtured by and for the community. Ethan studied at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and earned a Certified Professional Project Management certificate from the University of St. Thomas. He is a member of the Twin Cities Leadership Cohort of 2021, a charter member of the Twin Cities Rotary Ecoclub, and a former Rotary Youth Exchange Student and program ambassador. Dean Penk is a founding member and current chairperson of the Golden Valley Community Foundation, established in 2011. Until 2016, his professional work life was as a sales person and manager of various entities engaged in food packaging for products distributed throughout the world. In 1999-2000 he was a volunteer to USAID as a business consultant to startup food manufacturing businesses in the Republic of Armenia. While an undergrad student at U of MN - Morris, Dean led liberal arts programming teams for student activities. Dean was a member of the UM-Morris Alumni Board and is a past vice president. He served on Golden Valley’s Brookview’s Golf Improvement Committee in the 1990s, the Golden Valley Envision Connection Project Board of Directors til 2012, and the Brookview Community Center Task Force in 2016. Dean’s volunteer spirit and his support of community continues as evidenced by his leadership as board chair and acting executive director of the Foundation since 2011. A resident of Golden Valley since 1986, his wife Julie and he have raised multiple 4-legged kids. In his personal life, Dean is engaged in multiple activities including golf, gardening, landscaping, home design and renovation, travel, and volunteering for the Golden Valley Market in the Valley farmers market. |
