Fresh Energy “What's New in Renewable Energy”
Mar 12, 2019
Fresh Energy is an independent nonprofit organization working to speed the transition to a clean energy economy. Their team of attorneys, analysts, scientists, economists, and educators advances forward-looking policies that benefit our communities and our future. Using data, science, and market-based solutions, Fresh Energy helps Minnesota make progress toward a vision we can all share: an economy we thrive in and energy that ensures our well-being. From putting Minnesota on the pathway to being a national renewable energy leader to promoting clean transportation options for our growing economy, Fresh Energy has been an essential partner in helping the region develop efficient, cost-effective, and inclusive energy programming. As director of Center for Pollinators in Energy at Fresh Energy, Rob helps accelerate the nation’s transition to use of clean and renewable energy. Davis’ work on pollinator-friendly solar has been featured in trainings by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Conservation Training Center, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Electric Power Resource Institute, and the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center. Rob’s work in Minnesota was recognized by MnSEIA with the 2018 Excellence in Solar Policy Award. Along with a senior analyst from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Davis is co-chair of the research and outreach committee for NREL’s study into low-impact and pollinator-friendly solar development approaches. Previously, Rob helped launch technology start-ups and created the international crowdsourced campaign that launched the Firefox web browser. His work has been highlighted in a Solar Power World cover story as well as featured in Scientific American, National Geographic, and Wired; referenced in the 25th anniversary edition of Trivial Pursuit; and included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. City Pages, the alternative weekly of Minneapolis/St. Paul, called Rob “a good-natured but gravely determined change agent.” He is a two-time recipient of the Teresa Du Bois Exline Award for Best Practices in Communications and Marketing and a graduate of Macalester College. |

Mar 26, 2019
Junior Achievement (JA) offers financial literacy, college and career readiness, and entrepreneurship education to K-12 students in Minnesota, North Dakota, and western Wisconsin. JA empowers students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world - enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school. Karyn Thompson has been with JA since 2006 & joined the organization after first being a JA volunteer. Karyn has seen first-hand that the power of the collective JA effort - to help youth dream about opportunities that they have not been exposed to within their current sphere of influence - helps them understand and conceptualize a future for themselves that can be anything they want it to be. JA is truly changing lives. Prior to joining JA, Karyn worked for ten years with the City of St. Paul Parks department at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. She has also worked for KTCA Channel 2 & 17.

Assessment of Special Session
Sep 10, 2019
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Minnesota State Director Mike Hickey is a lobbyist who has represented NFIB for many years and has worked with several different governors and their administrations. NFIB/Minnesota lobbies tenaciously at the capitol and is also active with the press. Hickey's work with NFIB includes the landmark workers' compensation reform of 1995 that may have reduced workers' compensation premiums for small business more dramatically than any other in the history of our country, with some businesses receiving net 75 percent premium reductions. Other recent work includes lobbying for the state's largest tax cut and a land rights case, banning amortization. NFIB is the only group that solely represents small business in Minnesota and does not need to juggle the interests of corporate America along with those of small business. |
